Senior Backend Engineer
Role overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to join the VentureFactory.AI technology team and work across the Collective’s products, platforms and client solutions.
The role focuses on designing, developing and maintaining robust, scalable and secure backend systems for web and mobile applications. The ideal candidate has strong backend expertise along with full-stack experience, enabling them to contribute across the application when required.
This is a hands-on role that requires strong technical skills, sound problem-solving ability and the ability to take ownership of projects and deliver high-quality solutions.
Key responsibilities
Backend development
- Develop, optimize and maintain server-side applications, APIs and databases.
- Design and implement scalable backend architecture for web and mobile applications.
- Build and integrate APIs and third-party services.
- Design and manage relational and non-relational databases.
- Implement authentication, authorization and data security measures.
- Ensure high availability, performance, security and scalability of backend systems.
- Debug and resolve complex backend and integration issues.
Full-stack & system integration
- Collaborate with front-end engineers for seamless integration; contribute to frontend development when required.
- Work with AI engineers to integrate AI models, APIs and other intelligent capabilities into applications.
- Work with UI/UX designers and other team members to translate product requirements into functional solutions.
Engineering & infrastructure
- Contribute to system design and technical decisions for assigned projects.
- Work with cloud services such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Follow modern software development practices including version control, CI/CD and containerization.
- Contribute to application performance, scalability and reliability improvements.
- Maintain clear technical documentation and participate in code reviews.
Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering and cross-functional teams across the Collective’s initiatives.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly and contribute to technical discussions and problem solving.
- Support junior developers and contribute to a strong engineering culture.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in backend development with strong expertise in Python.
- Strong experience with backend frameworks such as FastAPI, Django or Flask.
- Strong experience in API development and system design.
- Experience with database design and development, including SQL and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines and modern development practices.
- Good understanding of scalable architecture, security and performance optimization.
- Full-stack development experience with the ability to contribute to frontend development when required.
- Strong problem-solving skills, a detail-oriented approach, and the ability to work independently and take ownership of technical deliverables.
Preferences
- Experience building AI/ML-powered applications; experience working with LLMs, AI APIs or other AI services.
- Familiarity with event-driven architecture and real-time data processing.
- Hands-on experience with message queues such as RabbitMQ, Kafka or Redis.
- Knowledge of security best practices, including OAuth, JWT and encryption techniques.
- Experience working in startups, product teams or fast-paced technology environments.
